Stickers displaying the Catalan colors -

Patriotes Catalans

  • It is forbidden, although tolerated, to put a sticker on a license plate.

  • Motorists cannot, for example, display their love for a club, for a character or for a territory with a sticker.

  • This regulation annoys, in particular, the Catalans: with the merger of the regions, Roussillon has disappeared, in favor of the name “Occitanie”.

Personalizing your license plate with a sticker is prohibited.

It is often tolerated by the police, but it is punishable by a fine of 135 euros.

If this is not new, this regulation has been around the Web in recent days, thanks to a judgment of the Court of Cassation.

The highest French court ruled in favor, on December 16, of a license plate manufacturer who for years had been challenging the marketing of stickers.

“The license plate is very, very regulated, in terms of size, shape, color etc., tells

Frédéric Casanova, lawyer, specialist in road law.

All the stickers that are sometimes affixed by motorists on the right side are illegal.

"Article 10 of the decree of February 9, 2009 specifies that" it is forbidden to modify the number plates or to add an element to them ".

"We are never, never verbalized"

An MHSC supporter is therefore not authorized to affix the logo of his favorite club on the plate of his vehicle.

The same goes for the small figures, the skulls or the car brands that we sometimes see on license plates.

"For my part, I am a great admirer of Napoleon," confides Frank Samson, a lawyer also specializing in road law.

I had plates made with the Imperial weapons.

I have absolutely no right.

This is not one of the authorized regional macarons.

It's illegal, but it has happened to me a thousand times to be checked, and we are never, never fined.

And then after all, if that makes you happy, well, it's 135 euros.

"

And above all, it is not possible, either, although they are on sale everywhere, to put stickers representing the logo of a department, a region or any claimed territory.

The only solution is to remake a new plate at a professional, and to choose among the logos of authorized regions.

This regulation angers in particular the French who claim to be in a territory that is not among the authorized logos.

And among them, the Catalans.

Since 2014, Occitanie has replaced Languedoc-Roussillon.

And, apart from a reminder of the Catalan colors and the mention "Pyrenees" on the logo of the greater region, the reform "erased" the Catalan country.

“Do we want to erase the identities that are the strength of France?

"

Joan Nou, the president of the Agissons Pays Catalan movement, has a sticker of the Catalan flag on his license plate.

And he doesn't plan to take it off.

"It's out of the question," he says.

There are regions which still have their identity on their plates.

The Corsicans, for example.

A Parisian who would love Corsica would only have to buy a new plate.

But the Catalans, we will not be able to do it.

This is the case with the Vendée, too.

Do we want to erase the identities that are the strength of France?

"

The Catalan Patriots are also angry.

The movement protested at not being able to display the colors blood and gold without risking a fine.

“Paris wants to uproot us, they scold.

This Jacobin and standardizing decision forces millions of people to warn you in the face of the void of identity desired by the State.

»There is one solution: put a sticker elsewhere, on the body.

That is authorized.
