The Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, announced on Wednesday the establishment of two new districts of “republican reconquest” (QRR) in Rillieux-la-Pape and Vaulx-en-Velin, near Lyon, by confirming the imminent arrival of police reinforcements in the city.

"I have come to announce two additional republican reconquest districts, which will make four for the Lyon metropolis (with the 8th arrondissement of Lyon and the Minguettes district in Vénissieux)", declared the minister during a visit to the Vaulx police station -en-Velin.

Reinforcements in Lyon

This measure will result in "25 additional police officers here in Vaulx and a dozen in Rillieux", added Gérald Darmanin, accompanied by the mayors concerned, Hélène Geoffroy (PS) and Alexandre Vincendet (LR), as well as the president of the metropolis of Lyon. , Bruno Bernard (EELV), and MP Anissa Khedher (LREM).

"In addition" to the 35 officials dedicated to the two QRRs, a hundred others are to be assigned to the city from March.

"I made a commitment to the elected officials of Lyon to catch up with the approximately 300 police forces which are lacking in Lyon", at the rate of "100 each year" for three years, continued the minister, specifying that it was about 'a "clear" reinforcement: 194 police officers must arrive precisely this year because between 90 and 95 departures are planned.

The case of Villeurbanne under study

"We will follow it closely, we will check if the account is there," said Alain Barberis, departmental representative of the Alliance union, on the sidelines of the visit.

"We hope that it will be 100" net "each time because the 300 police officers announced will only plug the current hole", added Christophe Pradier, zonal delegate Unsa.

The unions noted that no reinforcement was announced for the other two Rhone police districts, Givors and Villefranche-sur-Saône, also suffering according to them.

The minister indicated on the other hand that he would study the case of Villeurbanne, of which the mayor PS Cédric Van Styvendael claims that the district of Tonkin, where the drug trafficking thrives, also passes in “republican reconquest”.
