Schools in Great Britain are to be gradually reopened from the second week of March.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said in Parliament in London on Wednesday.

The date results from the progress of the vaccination program.

"If we achieve our goal of vaccinating each of the four most vulnerable groups with a first dose by February 15th (...) then these groups will have gained immunity three weeks later, that is March 8th," said Johnson.

Further restrictions on public life are then to be withdrawn, said the conservative politician.

He did not provide an exact schedule for this.

The UK has set a goal of vaccinating 15 million people with a first dose of the coronavirus by mid-February.

So far, more than 6.8 million people have been vaccinated there with at least one first dose.
