  • While France is suspended from any announcements by Emmanuel Macron concerning a potential reconfinement against the Covid-19, the mayor of Cabourg (Calvados) detailed the terms during a city council.

  • During this session broadcast live on Facebook on Monday evening, January 25, Tristan Duval affirmed that the confinement would last five weeks and would resemble that started in March 2020, citing the prefect of Calvados as a source.

  • The elected has however backpedaled since, apologizing for having "poorly expressed".

Did the elected representatives of the city of Cabourg (Calvados) expect to see the retransmission of their municipal council take on such a scale on social networks?

By starting this meeting, Monday evening January 25, with some "confidences" on the modalities of the anti-Covid-19 reconfinement which would await France, Mayor Tristan Duval in any case aroused national attention.

Many Internet users have in fact isolated the sequence of this live broadcast on the municipality's Facebook page (from 11'40 on the replay) in which the mayor, barely installed, apologizes for his delay and launches: “Off, the press is not there, I was on the phone with the prefect, who unfortunately announces a reconfinement from Wednesday, quite hard, announced Wednesday evening from Thursday, except schools.

And everything closes like in March.

"

I'm just telling you off, the press is not there ... Re-confinement Thursday, all closed except schools.

“Wait until it's official but apparently that's what we're headed for.

And schools are a two-week story since there are school vacations, and after that there would be two extra days of vacation extension.

Five weeks, ”continued the elected, while rumors have been rife for a few days on the announcement of a reconfinement - even if, according to FranceInfo, Emmanuel Macron does not intend to speak soon, contrary to this which had been announced (in the conditional) by the

FAKE OFF

Monday evening, just a few hours after the viral resumption of this statement on social networks, the prefecture of Calvados published a denial on Twitter: "The prefect of Calvados indicates that he did not have a conversation that day with the mayor of Cabourg on the hypothesis of a possible reconfinement.

"

This morning, the city of Cabourg relayed for its part the apologies of its mayor: “Tristan Duval apologizes to [the prefect of Calvados] for having expressed himself poorly during the municipal council and for having unnecessarily involved him.

These were just ongoing rumors that he thought was "off record".

The city remains mobilized.

"

Finally, Tristan Duval himself explained to our colleagues from France Bleu Normandie to have "poorly expressed", affirming that he was seeking to inform the city council of the various scenarios envisaged in the event of strengthening of health measures.

"I should have specified that this decision was being considered and not to involve the prefecture", he admitted.
