The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare has announced that it has confirmed the infection of two new women by quarantine for the mutated new coronavirus that has been confirmed to be infected in the United Kingdom and other countries.


This brings the number of confirmed infections in Japan to 53.

According to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, infection with the mutated virus was confirmed in women in their 30s who returned from Vietnam to Kansai Airport on January 17, and in their 30s who returned from South Africa to Narita Airport on January 19. There are two women in total.



The two were confirmed to be infected with the new coronavirus by a quarantine station test, and analysis of the specimens confirmed that they were mutant viruses found in the United Kingdom and South Africa, respectively.



The number of people confirmed to be infected in Japan is now 53.
