“We wanted to transcribe the wonder of the discovery, insists Carey Mulligan.

Trying to find what they must have felt when they understood what they had found.

This feeling is particularly strong because only a deep bond unites the duo.

“They are linked by their research and by a form of fraternity without any romantic attraction,” says Ralph Fiennes.

This friendly relationship is at the center of a deeply human story in which the man becomes attached to the young son of the heroine who sees him as a father figure.
