Created in 2000, the "Hitman" license has had many successes in video games and even two adaptations to the cinema.

"Hitman 3", the last opus in the series, establishes the franchise as the benchmark for infiltration games.

With Agent 47, an inventive hired killer, thought and patience are the key words to eliminate the targets of his missions.

It is a franchise that will bring back good memories to players and bad to moviegoers:

Hitman

, cult license in the history of video games, returns with

Hitman 3

, the eighth opus of this series which began in 2000 and the third since the reboot started in 2016. Agent 47, a relentless hitman, does not change the register since it is always a question of infiltrating a crowded place to assassinate a target.

Conclusion of a trilogy thought like in the cinema (and which catches up with the two failed film adaptations of 2007 and 2015), this new episode always offers more possibilities to execute the contracts and asserts itself as one, if not the best stealth game around.

Around the world of death

Don't panic, if you haven't played the first two episodes of the trilogy, it is still possible to tackle the third one directly.

The events of the story are recapitulated at the beginning and it does not look very far: the Agency, the organization for which Agent 47 works, hunts down one by one the members of Providence, a secret influence group that manipulates politics and the world economy.

After using the Agency to do their dirty work, they have been exposed and the hitman is after them.

Much more than the backstory, the interest of

Hitman 3

lies in the missions, each being playable separately.

There are six and each time, the goal is to assassinate one or more targets in a closed environment: on top of a tower in Dubai, in an opulent English mansion, in a Berlin nightclub… Each mission begins by a briefing with a staging very inspired by cinema.

Agent 47 is released at the entrance of the place and it's up to the player to find the best way to accomplish the various objectives.

For a hitman, patience is king

In fact, the assassination itself is just the culmination of the mission.

But where

Hitman 3

tastes great is in the preparation of each contract.

You have to be methodical, investigate the target, choose the right approach and be patient (allow a good hour per level).

It is certainly possible to enter with a submachine gun and fight your way to the objective.

But this tactic inevitably ends in failure since it is necessary to leave the building alive.

The player therefore has every interest in racking his brains to identify a more discreet approach.

To do this, we can rely on the skills of Agent 47. First, we must locate the targets, follow them, watch their movements, investigate them by searching each room.

Then, you have to find a way to approach them, sneaking into the shadows, camouflaging yourself in the crowd or even disguising yourself to deceive the vigilance of targets and personnel, here as a server, there as a bodyguard.

And finally, you have to choose the best weapon, from poison to pistol, including piano wire or other ever more inventive methods.

A very pleasant gaming experience

The complete freedom afforded to the player may be scary at first but

Hitman 3

is actually very accessible.

It is possible to choose between three levels of difficulty and especially to follow scenarios written by the developers.

In this case, just let yourself be guided from clue to clue to accomplish the mission.

A good way to familiarize yourself with the mechanics of contracts, before emancipating themselves from them.

Because the main strength of the game is its replayability: each level can be redone at will to try new approaches or achieve dozens of additional objectives (kill the target in a certain way, trigger a specific event, etc.).

Without being graphically stunning,

Hitman 3

offers a pleasant gaming experience, with varied environments and an absolutely remarkable fluidity in the action.

With his fitted suit, red tie, shaved head and barcode tattooed on the back of his head, the hitman is as charismatic as ever.

A true artist of death, he can do almost anything for our greatest pleasure.

And somewhere, with his missions to the four corners of the world, his subtle infiltration, his gadgets, his disguises,

Hitman

offers, in video games, the sensations of films like

James Bond

and

Mission Impossible
