Portugal: the far right in the presidential race

We had not seen the far right in Portugal since the fall of the Salazar dictatorship in 1974. But in 2019, Andre Ventura, the leader of the populist Chega party, won a seat in Parliament.

Candidate for the presidential election, the second round of which is held on Sunday January 24, he does not frighten anyone for the moment, with 8% of intention to vote.

But his program worries, and in particular his insistence on making the gypsy community an ideal scapegoat.
