The RKI counts demonstrably infected people who died directly from Corona and those with previous illnesses for which the cause of death cannot be conclusively clarified as a Covid 19 death.

It is at the discretion of the health department whether to submit a case to the RKI as deceased "to" or "with" Covid-19.

Researchers assume that the number of Covid 19 deaths would be many times higher without the corona restrictions.

The number of new infections reported within seven days per 100,000 inhabitants (seven-day incidence) was

115.3

on Friday morning, according to the RKI

.

Its previous high was reached on December 22nd at

197.6

.

The number fluctuated after that and has been falling again for a few days.

The differences between the federal states, however, remain large: Thuringia has the highest incidences with

218.4

and Brandenburg with

194.4

.

Bremen has the lowest value with

80.9

.

The RKI has counted

2,106,262

detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 in Germany

since the beginning of the pandemic

(as of January 22, 00:00).

The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher as many infections are not detected.

The RKI

stated the

number of

people recovered

to be

around

1,780,200

.

The nationwide seven-day R-value was

0.93

(previous day:

0.87

)

according to the RKI situation report from Thursday evening

.

This means that 100 infected people infect 93 other people.

The value represents the occurrence of the infection 8 to 16 days ago.

If it is below 1 for a long time, the infection process subsides.

Due to the particularly high number of corona infections, the federal government will for the first time classify 25 countries as high-risk areas as of Sunday, for which even stricter entry rules will apply than for the previous and still existing "risk areas".

As the Robert Koch Institute announced on its website on Friday, this includes the Czech Republic, the holiday countries Portugal, Spain and Egypt, Israel, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Lebanon and the USA.

Entry from these "high incidence areas" is only possible with a negative corona test.

The test may have been carried out at least 48 hours before entry.

In addition, as with the countries classified as "risk areas", those entering the country must be in a ten-day quarantine.

The Greek region of Attica around the capital Athens, on the other hand, is one of the very few European regions no longer considered a risk area - if you travel from there to Germany, no quarantine is necessary.

After the second injection, it usually takes a week before full vaccination protection is assumed.
