The activities of the third session of the Al Ain Film Festival will start today at Al Jahili Fort in Al Ain, under the patronage of Sheikh Sultan bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, member of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, and in the presence of Dr. Sheikh Saeed bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, and a number of ambassadors.

The festival's screenings begin with the Algerian film "Heliopolis", which will be shown internationally for the first time at the Al Ain Film Festival.

The film is directed by Jaafar Kassem, and its events revolve around a family living in their large family farm in the town of Heliopolis, which was built by the French colonialist in the middle of fertile fields in eastern Algeria, but the outbreak of World War II caused disruption in Algeria and became more complicated.

The competitions of the third session of the Al Ain Film Festival will be judged by the elite of Gulf filmmakers. The festival’s various competitions offer a rich mix of films from the UAE, the Gulf and the world, numbering 85, most of which are shown for the first time in the Gulf and internationally.

The founder and director of the festival, Amer Salmeen Al-Marri said: We are pleased to celebrate today the third edition of the «Al Ain Film Festival» in one of the ancient Emirati cities, which embraces an important part of the civilization and heritage of the UAE, which is the city of Al Ain, and I am also pleased that the festival opens with the Algerian film. Heliopolis »in its world premiere, which confirms that“ Al Ain Cinema ”, since its inception, has been following the path of distinction and exclusivity in attracting and selecting films. In its first session, it was a pioneer in the presentation of the Egyptian opening film,“ The Treasure 2 ”in its world premiere, and succeeded in opening The second session will show the Sudanese film "You will die at twenty" in its first Gulf screening.

He added: Despite the difficult circumstances and the great challenges in light of the repercussions of the emerging "Corona" virus, and the impact of cinematic productions in the past year, the festival managed to attract a group of the most prominent local, Gulf, Arab and international films, which the "Al Ain Cinema" audience will enjoy, from which it is nominated. Five films to Oscar 2021.

The festival, in its third session, celebrates the display of 12 films within the "Cinema of the World" program, where "Al Ain Cinema", despite the exceptional difficult circumstances due to "Corona" and its impact on productions last year, succeeded in attracting a group of the most prominent cinematic works from world cinema.
