Austria's Chancellor Sebastian Kurz supports the German demands for stricter entry controls due to the corona pandemic.

Kurz wrote on Thursday evening on Twitter that he was also in favor of the compulsory test proposed by Berlin to detect the spread of highly contagious virus mutations across Europe.

Chancellor Angela Merkel had said before the switch to the 27 EU heads of state and government that she was in favor of all EU countries testing at least five percent of the positive samples in order to discover the virus variants.

The EU governments also provided advice via video link on the vaccination certificates required by Greece and Spain, which are intended to simplify the travel of vaccinated people.

Before the meeting, Merkel warned that Germany would introduce border controls against countries that were not resolute in fighting the virus.

But she hoped that this would not be necessary with better coordination of anti-corona measures between neighboring countries.
