  • Despite the ban, a teacher has resumed her face-to-face classes at the University of South Brittany in Lorient.

  • She explains that the health protocol is fully respected and denounces "an inequality between students".

  • The management of the university “condemns” this initiative.

Faced with the distress of the students, she decided despite the ban to do face-to-face lessons with her master's students at the University of South Brittany (UBS) in Lorient.

" I am not the only one.

I have colleagues in Vannes who have also taken over.

I do not know exactly how many we are in total, but I think there are about ten of us, ”explains Florence Gourlay, lecturer in geography.

“I started again at the beginning of January.

I had said to my students: "if you come back in January, we will manage" and that is what we did ", she explains.

Virginie Dupont, president of the University of South Brittany, "condemns this initiative", specifies the UBS in a press release, recalling that "to date, only lessons of practical work are authorized in person, after approval by the rector, thus that the reception by groups of 10 students maximum ”.

"I have 18 students in master 1 and 18 in master 2. It is much less than in some preparatory classes or in BTS which, unlike universities, have been authorized to do face-to-face lessons", notes the teacher .

"We must stop this inequality between students"

This week, she also repeated classes, for the first time, at L3.

“There are more of them.

But I reserved a sufficiently large room, I did not endanger anyone and the health protocol was fully respected, ”she explains.

For these L3 courses, they were “35 present in the room and 22 on screen.

I had warned the dean who came to make sure that everything was fine ”.

“We were very attentive to the students during the confinement and we felt that they were not doing well.

We must stop this inequality between students in BTS or preparatory courses and university students, ”considers the teacher.

Last week, Prime Minister Jean Castex announced that first-year university students could resume face-to-face tutorials in half-groups from January 25.

Despite the ban, the teacher intends to continue these classes.

“My students ask me,” she says.
