  • Health. Third wave health professionals: "We are exhausted, weary, bored and angry"

One more day in which records are broken in some indicators of the pandemic.

According to the figures published this Wednesday by the Ministry of Health,

the number of infections in the last 24 hours is 41,576, which again sets a record in the entire pandemic

(the previous one was Friday with 40,197 and Monday was record of infections after a weekend throughout the crisis, with 84,287).

There are 18,500 new cases detected the previous day (5,570 in Madrid, 2,703 in Castilla y León and 2,550 in Catalonia), which makes a total of 2,412,318 in the entire pandemic.

The accumulated incidence (AI) is another indicator that

continues to grow and stands at 736.23

.

After the huge rise it registered from Friday (575.10) to Monday (689.27) it continues to increase although a little more discreetly, but without stopping for now.

The situation is increasingly worrying for autonomous communities, since there are six that exceed the threshold of 1,000.

Extremadura continues to lead with an AI of 1,425.29.

They are followed by Murcia (1,189.10), Valencian Community (1,075.77), Castilla-La Mancha (1,066.18), Castilla y León (1,047.16) and La Rioja (1,042.30).

Another six autonomies are above 600: Madrid (789.70), Melilla (698.37), Andalusia (676.86), Balearic Islands (673.53), Aragon (650.73) and Catalonia (615.81 ).

Although it is the last parameter in which the upward trend is observed,

the number of deaths also begins to take off and this Wednesday 464 were registered

, a figure higher than the previous day (404) and very similar to those recorded in November in the worst moments of the second wave.

What does not support more increases and it does not seem that it is going to stay here is the care burden of the health system.

Our professionals are beginning to be overwhelmed in many hospitals in Spain, which are already providing beds in field hospitals that were created in the first wave when everything collapsed.

This Wednesday, records are broken again in the percentage of beds occupied by patients with coronavirus in Spain (19.95%), a figure that far exceeds the maximum risk threshold (more than 15% is very high risk, the highest level );

also in intensive care beds: 35.02%, which beats the record reached this Tuesday

(33.69%).

In this last sense, the communities that are most saturated are the Valencian Community, with an ICU occupancy of 55.30% (it continues to rise from 53.80% of the previous day), Melilla (52.94%, remains as the previous day after doubling in 24 hours), La Rioja (51.67%), Catalonia (47.29%), Madrid (44.92%, which rises almost three points in 24 hours), Castilla-La Mancha (44.70% ), Balearic Islands (43.93%), Castilla y León (34.84%), Extremadura (33.80%), Aragon (28.63%) and Murcia (27.66%, rises and begins to reflect the enormous incidence that the region presents).

It should be remembered that these percentages are only for Covid patients, we must add those who occupy ICU beds for other pathologies or interventions and, therefore, the degree of saturation is even higher.

Thus, hospitalizations and ICU admissions maintain an upward trend.

To date there are

25,228 patients admitted for Covid, a higher figure than in the second wave

.

Of these, 4,859 correspond to Catalonia, 4,655 Valencian Community, 3,895 to Madrid and below Castilla-La Mancha (1,612) and Castilla y León (1,481).

In the last 24 hours, 1,967 patients have been admitted (6,182 in the last seven days), a figure also higher than in the second wave, in which not as many patients were admitted daily.

146 patients have been referred to the ICU in the last 24 hours (525 in the last seven days).

Therefore, since the start of the pandemic, there are already 232,359 total hospitalized patients and 20,076 total ICU cases.

At the European level, the situation varies slightly

in the ranking of total infections, where Spain is ahead of Italy (2,400,598) and is fourth with 2,412,318

.

Ahead are Russia (3,612,800), the United Kingdom (3,466,849) and France (2,938,333).

Germany (2,068,002) continues in sixth place and is followed by Turkey (1,578,625), Poland (1,443,804) and Ukraine (1,167,655).

By number of deaths, little change for now: the United Kingdom occupies the first place (91,470), followed by Italy (83,157), France (71,342), Russia (66,623) and Spain (54,637).

As for AI, it is still absolutely fired in countries like Ireland (1,363.1, where it has dropped 81 points in 24 hours), the Czech Republic (1,327.5, which has dropped slightly), Portugal (1,268.7, which continues to rise , about 50 points from the previous day) or the United Kingdom (1,038.9).

Below 1,000 but worrying figures are Spain (736.2), Sweden (593.5, which has managed to drop almost 250 points in 24 hours), the Netherlands (518.4) and Switzerland (441.2).
