The Egyptian jewelry designer, Mahmoud Othman, entered the world of stones, through the ancient roots he carried, which appeared by chance in his life, as he was influenced by his grandmother who loved stones and wore them a lot, then he began to discover his passion for this strange world when he started looking for accessories for himself. And he did not find what he wanted in the market.

Othman entered the world of yoga and meditation, and here his experience in this field mixed with his passion for stones, so he began to present designs that combine the aesthetics of stones and their ability to change the energy of the bearer for the better and reduce his tension, and between the unique designs that carry the legacy of civilizations and are distinguished by being outside the fashionable framework of the times.

The world of metaphysics

About his entry into this world, Othman spoke to Emirates Today, and said: “It was not easy for me to find the stones that I love in the market, and I began to search a lot for exotic stones and wear them, and after I entered the world of yoga and meditation, I began to delve into the world of metaphysics, How do stones affect energy, so both fields were connected with each other for me, and then I began to link between energy therapy and stones, so the healers who use stones for treatment do not pay attention to design and vice versa, and here was the difference in my designs.

Othman pointed out that since he was living in London in 2016, his yoga instructor had been a crystal therapist, and she noticed that he had put a bracelet of stones, and began to offer him exercises for stones until he found his energy with natural stones, and that he was able to feel stones, indicating that he had started He designs stones for himself, then the circle expanded to his friends, and then he started working in the field as a trade.

Artificial stones

Regarding the quality of stones and the distinction between synthetic and natural, Othman emphasized that he is keen on using natural and non-synthetic stones, pointing out that there are many artificial stones in the market, and some of them are treated with some materials, including turquoise stones that are injected by "Resin", or even electricity. Which is designed from the material itself, indicating that the natural stone is distinguished in a simple way through the heat, as the natural stone in cold weather is cooler than the surrounding environment, or more hot if it is found in a hot area.

Environmentally friendly

In terms of design, Othman works on designing stones in a way that makes them suitable for being masculine and feminine, but sometimes he presents more feminine designs, indicating that he works on environmentally friendly designs, when he tries to search for stone, he is interested in finding stones in environments where working conditions are fair. He explained that, as a designer, he shies away from fast fashion, because the stone lives with a person a full life and can be inherited, and that is why the stone is designed with timeless designs, as some designs began to be presented two years ago, and are still in the group and are ordered today.

Limited designs

Entering the world of design with stones prompted Othman to learn the craft of cutting stones himself, as he worked to master it by learning from a well-known craftsman in Egypt, where he asked him to give him the opportunity to learn, and he began to learn and discover the world of stone crafting, as he brought him many strange stones, He learned from him and is still cutting stones himself.

After cutting the stone, Othman adds threads or metal according to the design, but he is keen to issue limited designs so that he does not repeat himself.

Othman pointed out that his designs undoubtedly reflect his influence with the Egyptian civilization, as well as ancient civilizations, as there is a group of designs that carry some special concepts, but he stresses that the designs are geometric shapes that people must understand as they are.

Dubai diversity

Othman works today in Dubai, a city that brings together many nationalities and cultures, and he pointed out that this richness made him go deeper with the idea that it is not required to satisfy all tastes, so the designer does not have to satisfy everyone, but rather he has to present what he loves and what he wants to reach people And he will find someone who appreciates and admires him.

He pointed out that there are many who present new ideas, as Dubai is a melting pot of many cultures, which increases the creativity of everyone who works and lives in it, indicating that people appreciate the precious stones here, and this is what prompted him to amend some ideas, including the rosary consisting of The stones, to which he added a lock in order to put a bracelet in the hand, thus became acceptable to many people.

Energy and stone treatments

Mahmoud Othman emphasized the link between energy science and stones, indicating that there is a lot of demand for stones that relieve stress, explaining that medicines do not help much with stress, as modern medicine deals with temporary things, and that is why people resort to stones that reduce their severity, stressing that Most of the stones that help relieve stress are agate, turquoise, lapis lazuli, and aprodorite, a stone that is considered new.
