After a week of closure, the Pierre-Joël-Bonté high school in Riom (Puy-de-Dôme) was once again able to welcome students on Monday.

Teachers and educational advisers had recently been the target of insults and death threats.

The staff had received the first threats via the digital workspace (ENT), otherwise the Internet portal used by the school.

The latter had closed its doors on Monday, January 11, but new threats had been sent the next day, which had postponed the reopening of the establishment initially scheduled for Thursday.

Potential accomplices

Teachers of a second class had been informed in a message that an individual wanted to "come armed in the establishment to commit 'carnage'", had specified Eric Maillaud, the public prosecutor of Clermont-Ferrand.

In total, five adolescents had been taken into police custody.

Four of them were released and the fifth was indicted last Friday for death threats, insults in charge of a public service mission and acts of intimidation.

"He certainly did not act alone, but for the moment we do not know his accomplices," said Éric Maillaud.

A reinforced system

The investigation continues and the police are now carrying out "complex computer investigations" to try to identify potential accomplices.

In the meantime, a reinforced security system has been put in place at the Pierre-Joël-Bonté high school and "will be maintained throughout the week," said the rectorate.

Police patrols have been set up around the establishment, which also benefits from two security guards sent by the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, as well as a mobile security team from the rectorate.

The teachers of the second class targeted as well as their students benefited from a specific welcome time to “decompress”.
