Celebrates the fiftieth year with the movie "The Millstone"

Nasser Al Dhaheri: Sheikh Zayed saved my life twice

Al Dhaheri: The moments of pride are not measured by how much has been spent .. There are things of gold that cannot be bought or sold

Emirati writer and director Nasser Al Dhaheri called on the concerned authorities to support local films instead of focusing on the production of foreign works, considering that the success of the artistic work is not measured by what it achieves in terms of material return, as there are things that cannot be measured with money or gold.

He stressed that localism is a fundamental pillar in building a successful artwork, but achieving universality requires introducing human values that touch the feelings and lives of people in various parts of the world.

Al Dhaheri revealed that he is currently working on a movie entitled "The Millstone", which is scheduled to be shown next December in conjunction with the UAE celebrations of the Golden Jubilee and the 50th National Day, which represent an opportunity to remember the late founding father Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God rest his soul, and so on. He made it for the country and its children.

Special experience

During the virtual evening organized for him by the Emirates Writers and Writers Union yesterday evening, presented by Bashayer Al-Mutairi, the media presented it, Al-Dhaheri shed light on my cinematic experience, noting that Sheikh Zayed, may God bless him and grant him peace, saved his life twice, the first time when he sent him for treatment outside the country in his childhood. And the second is to provide him with education.

He added that “many of the scenes and interviews contained in (The Millstone) were filmed during his work on his film (The Biography of the Water, the Palm and the Family), more than three years ago.” Older people carry it in their memories of sights and testimonies.

"tolerance"

On his production of his film "Tolerance", which he presented in conjunction with the UAE's celebration of the "Year of Tolerance" in 2019, and "The Millstone", he said: "I love beautiful intentions and nobility in dealing and honesty, and to offer something without waiting for reward or thanks, this is my nature."

I also believe that it is important to give something of thanks for what this country has made of me, this country without which I would not have learned, read, traveled and enjoyed safety, in front of all this there is nothing wrong with a person spending from his pocket without waiting for a return or return, and it is sufficient for me to honor His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, is among the first in the Emirates ... and this is a crown of pride on my head.

Between the local and the global

Regarding local production, Nasser Al Dhaheri called on the authorities responsible for cinema in the country to pay attention to local businesses, as they "produce foreign films and pay them generously, and we do not find for them a material, literary or moral return equivalent to what is spent."

He continued: “Anyone can make a commercial movie and exploit the masses of some social media stars, but is the measure of success that I earn the money I spent on my film, or are there higher values. When an Egyptian or Algerian film wins the Cannes festival, they are moments of pride and gains It is not measured by how much it was spent, and who took and who gave, there are things of gold that are neither bought nor sold.

The Emirati writer and filmmaker stressed the importance of the creator’s attachment to his world and his environment: “I don’t know if localism leads to universality or not.

It is a beautiful thing to start from the local, which is the anchor and the first clay from which any creator can move, but there are beautiful common human values for all people, and high values in humanity are the ones that move the creator.

He considered that there have been successive cinematic attempts in the Gulf since the movie "But Oh Bahr", but there is no complete experience, betting that Saudi Arabia will witness a great development in the film industry in light of the great development it is currently witnessing, especially in light of the availability of filmmakers of both sexes. Financial support and the Red Sea Film Festival, praising the experience of Al Ain Film Festival and its support for it, but these experiences need an accumulation of time to achieve the required return.

No cash

Nasser Al Dhaheri saw that there is no film criticism in the Emirates, explaining: “Even literary criticism there is a great shortage in it on the scene, and by it I mean the presence of real critics who open all windows with some science, and specialized magazines, as in Egypt, for example, and not loving critics. Of an artist or artist, and criticism in the past that relied on news criticism, which reviews the work events ».

And he underestimated the impact of digital platforms in the continuation of the traditional movie theaters, which were associated with movie lovers with beautiful rituals.

The Emirati director and writer's film is scheduled to be shown in December.

The sights and testimonies that the elderly carry in their memories should be documented.

"It is important to give some thanks for what this country made of me ... without which I would not have learned, read, traveled and enjoyed safety."

"The authorities responsible for cinema in the state should pay attention to local businesses instead of paying lavishly for foreign films that do not achieve returns."
