[Explanation] After months of careful "care", on January 19, an adult male wild boar was inspected by the staff at the Wild Animal Rescue Center of Hongshan Forest Zoo in Nanjing, and was assessed to be in a stable condition and was released into the wild.

Before the release, the staff of the rescue center also wore a positioning "collar" for the "pig man" to help study the movement trajectory and living habits of the wild boar.

[Explanation] At about 10 o'clock in the morning, at the Wild Animal Rescue Center of Hongshan Forest Zoo in Nanjing, staff are preparing anesthetics for wild boars.

  [Concurrent] Staff

This is a remote injection device we use to anaesthetize wild boars. Next, we put the syringe into this tube and blow it out with air pressure. It takes about 3 to 5 meters.

[Explanation] Subsequently, the staff used a blowpipe anesthesia method to inject the wild boar with anesthetic through the cage.

After confirming that the wild boar was completely asleep, 8 staff members firmly held the wild boar and put on a customized locator for the wild boar.

  [Concurrent] On-site

[Explanation] According to the staff, this is a real-time positioning "collar" with solar charging, which is like a strap and is customized by the garden party in cooperation with the School of Life Sciences, Nanjing Normal University.

This time, the wild boar was reintroduced naturally. Because in the past, (we) used more large animals and fewer wild boars, so the measuring circle and size are all custom-made.

Now we use this new equipment and new technology to install the locator on it, and then, its activity (situation) in the field, we use the locator to understand.

Research on the behavior of wild boars and protection of wild boars in the future can play a great role.

[Explanation] At about 1 pm, the gradually sober wild boars were put into cages and transported to Nanjing Laoshan Forest Park for release.

At the scene, the staff opened the cage of the wild boar and waited for the wild boar to go to nature.

Around 4:05 pm, the wild boar returned to nature smoothly.

  [Concurrent] Release to the scene

[Explanation] It is understood that on November 28, 2020, the Zoo Ambulance Center received a call from the police stating that a wild boar was found in Mingfa Square of Nanjing South Railway Station. After that, the veterinarian went there and brought the wild boar back using blowpipe anesthesia.

The inspection revealed that the wild boar was an adult male with normal body condition. There was an old fracture in his left hind leg, but it had no effect on activities. This is the sixth wild boar rescued by the rescue center in 2020.

According to Chen Yuelong from the Zoo Rescue Center, due to the continuous expansion of human activities, there will be some overlap with the living area of wild boars.

It (wild boar) activities around the city, in some natural environments of the city, in fact, we don’t know yet. I think this is also our “collar” for the wild boar this time and re-release it to the wild. We want to get Go to more information.

[Explanation] Chen Yuelong reminded that after spotting wild boars, you must stay away and call the police for help.

After the wild boar is frightened, its weight and speed can indeed cause certain dangers in the process of escaping. I think it is necessary to avoid the wild boar as much as possible and contact the relevant competent authority for professionals to deal with it.
