Harry Brant, the son of 52-year-old US supermodel Stephanie Seymour and US multi-billionaire Peter Brant (73), is dead.

As his family announced in a statement to the New York Times, the 24-year-old died of an accidental overdose.

Brant, who worked as a successful young model but also as a fashion entrepreneur, had been suffering from his addiction for years.

"We will be forever sad that his life ended so quickly because of this devastating disease," said the family's statement.

"He has achieved a lot in his 24 years, but we will never have the opportunity to see how much more Harry could have done." The cause of his death was an "accidental overdose" of prescription drugs, the family continues.

Like his mother, Harry got into the modeling business early on.

The New Yorker was considered a jet setter and "It-Boy";

He liked to be seen at international fashion shows and parties: The "New York Magazine" once described him and his older brother as "New York's most beautiful teenage brothers".

Stephanie Seymore, who was already a model at the age of 14, rose to prominence in the 1990s as a friend of the Guns N 'Roses singer, Axl Rose.

At the time, she appeared in two of the band's music videos: Her appearance in a so-called mullet wedding dress, which was cut short at the front and long at the back, caused a particularly sensation.

After separating from Axl Rose, Seymour married Peter Brant in 1995, who owns a publishing house and is also an art collector and film producer.

Harry Brant was one of three children born of the marriage.
