The UK health authorities registered a new high of 1,610 corona deaths within 24 hours on Tuesday.

The total number of corona deaths increased to 91,470, as the authorities in London announced.

The previous high of 1560 deaths was recorded on Wednesday last week.

With almost 3.5 million cases of infection, Great Britain is one of the countries most affected by the pandemic in Europe and is currently fighting its third and deadliest wave of infections to date.

On Tuesday, 33,355 new infections with the corona virus were registered nationwide.

The rapid increase in new infections is attributed to a new, significantly more contagious virus variant that first spread in London and the south of England.

According to the British statistics agency ONS, one in eight residents in England has already been infected with the novel corona virus.

In the previous month it was one in eleven people.
