  • Since 1998, a vast blood donation operation, the largest in France, has taken place every year in Toulouse.

  • 3,700 donors are expected at the Capitol between Wednesday and Saturday to replenish the stocks of the French Blood Establishment.

  • Despite the 6 p.m. curfew, donors are allowed to donate until 7 p.m.

After the holidays and periods of calm in terms of operations, January is often a period when the need for blood products is important.

This year even more, the health crisis having considerably reduced collections, whether in companies or with the general public.

So many withdrawals not made.

“Our reserves are quite satisfactory, but the drop in the number of blood drives has an impact, even if we have new donors.

Last week we had 400 at the Maison du don on rue Lapyerouse, 32 were new donors, ”explains Priscilla Agostini, from the French Blood Establishment (EFS) in Occitanie.

To succeed in supplying hospitals with clinics, whose needs are 1,000 donations per day in Occitania to cover hospital activity, a vast collection operation is organized from Wednesday to Saturday in Toulouse, under the gold of the Salle des Illustres, at the Capitol.

Until 7 p.m., despite the curfew

EFS d'Occitanie, in partnership with Rotary, is organizing its 24th edition of “My blood for others”.

During this vast collection system, the largest in France, no less than 2,700 donors are expected, under specific conditions responding to the health context, thanks to the help of Rotary volunteers.

Under the sponsorship of the Olympic mogul ski champion, Perrine Laffont, and the Olympic swimming champion, Fabien Gilot, the people of Toulouse are expected to make this donation, essential to treat a million patients each year.

Especially since the region has seen its needs increase by nearly 40% over the past 15 years.

And, as the cause is important, donations can take place until 7:00 p.m., despite the curfew by checking the “help to vulnerable people” box on the derogatory certificate.
