[Explanation] Every year on the eve of the Lunar New Year, it is a traditional custom for Hong Kong people to go to the flower market to buy new year’s flowers to decorate the house.

A few days ago, a reporter from China News Agency visited the Mong Kok Flower Market in Yau Tsim Mong District, Hong Kong.

There is less than one month before the Lunar New Year, and the Mong Kok Flower Market is already crowded.

The reporter saw on the spot that many flower stalls on the street were filled with various kinds of seasonal flowers. Potted plants such as orange, phalaenopsis, and daffodils have taken the lead in the market, and many businesses have adopted the strategy of small profits but quick turnover to attract citizens early buy.

Unlike last year, no one came to see the flowers last year, so I bought peach blossoms this year, hoping to have better luck.

I think this year (the price of flowers) seems not as expensive as last year, but I think.

It may be too early, it is still early, so I think it is cheaper than in previous years to buy flowers. Last year, I bought flowers very expensive. Because I bought them late last year, it is already very hot now. Now many people are buying flowers.

[Explanation] Every year before the New Year’s Eve, Hong Kong’s Lunar New Year Market would open one after another for the public to buy new year flowers.

However, due to the recurrence of the new crown epidemic, the SAR government announced in early January that all Lunar New Year Fairs this year will be cancelled, including 14 Lunar New Year Fairs.

Therefore, as the largest flower retail center in Hong Kong, the Mong Kok Flower Fair has become the main market for Hong Kong citizens to purchase annual flowers in advance under the epidemic.

More people come down to go shopping because they don't have to go to the flower market, so they are worried that there will be a lot of people at that time (New Year). They will come shopping early this year, and they will buy flowers earlier. They all know that the flow of people will be separated and everyone is very cooperative.

[Explanation] Some merchants said that in light of the previous government's move to stop the Lunar New Year Fair, they are worried about whether the flower market will be suspended due to the epidemic and other reasons. Therefore, the purchase volume is more conservative than in previous years.

Because this epidemic really does not know (how to develop), some people are worried about whether the flower market (business) will be suspended after (February) 1st, because too many people have gathered here, because all the years in more than a dozen districts The night (market) has all stopped. People are gathering here. There are too many people, and they are all worried about an outbreak. We will consider this matter, so we dare not buy too much.

[Explanation] The reporter learned from the scene that affected by the epidemic, unlike previous years, many citizens bought flowers more than half a month in advance. Therefore, some flower categories with a longer cultivation period and blooming period are also more popular with consumers.

Now because the daffodils are picked back and need to be soaked, they will be soaked 23 to 25 days before the new year. This is the best selling.

Because now these people have to wait until the new year to buy it.

So for now, the best sellers are daffodils and orchids.

The companies that bought kumquat may be a little bit close this year, because many companies have closed their stores, which will have an impact.

Others (categories) have no major impact for the time being.
