Among those who stormed the US Congress building was 52-year-old Iced Earth guitarist Jon Schaffer, who was captured on video.
Fans recognized him and now he has been arrested.
He is charged on six counts, according to Indiestar.
Other band members have published a post on social media where they distance themselves from the guitarist's actions.
“Some of you have been worried about our silence, which we understand.
We needed time to process the information and sort out some facts. ”
they write and continue:
"We absolutely do NOT support the uprisings or the acts of violence that the rebels were involved in on January 6 in the Capitolium.
We hope that everyone involved is brought to justice, investigated and held accountable for their actions. "
The heavy metal band Iced Earth was formed in 1985, and has since released 12 albums and has millions of listens on Spotify.
They were formed under the name Purgatory, but changed when they discovered that there was already a band of the same name.
Jon Schaffer plays guitar, keyboards and sings in the band.
