The insolvent steak house chain Maredo has given notice to almost all employees.

Because there is hardly any liquidity left for the payment of wages and salaries, one is forced to take this step, according to a letter from the executive floor to the workforce.

Only a rump group in the administration continues to work for the time being.

The industry portal Food Service had previously reported on it.

Maredo filed for bankruptcy in March 2020.

20 out of 35 restaurants were closed, around half of the approximately 950 employees had to leave.

The corona-related closings from November were another setback.

According to the steakhouse chain, the state rejected the request for corona help.

Jens Spahn obliges laboratories to search specifically for highly contagious virus mutations.

A regulation for gene sequencing presented by Spahn on Monday provides for this.

The aim is therefore to examine at least five percent of the positive samples for gene mutations in the future.

"We want a better overview of the virus variants circulating in Germany," said the CDU politician.
