Despite the corona requirements, the winter weather again lured many day trippers to the Harz at the weekend.

All parking spaces were occupied, said a spokesman for the Halberstadt police on Sunday.

The license plate also showed that many visitors from neighboring countries to the north had come to the Harz district.

“But everything went well and there was no game parking,” said the spokesman.

As a rule, people kept their distance in accordance with the Corona rules.

According to a spokeswoman for the district, no places had to be blocked.

At the beginning of the year there was a large number of visitors in the Harz Mountains with overcrowded streets and parking lots as well as crowds of people on hiking trails.

Large police force

The Harz Tourism Association then declared on its website that the number of visitors was causing concerns with regard to the safety of guests and the local population.

Everyone should therefore carefully consider a trip to the Harz Mountains and act responsibly.

In view of the continued wintry weather, the police and law enforcement officers throughout the Harz Mountains had prepared themselves with a large contingent for a possible rush of visitors on Saturday and Sunday.

According to the Goslar district, the district of Goslar said that the mask requirement on the toboggan slopes has been improved.

The slopes on which this obligation applies are now specifically listed in the general decree.

According to the police, around 30 people protested in Schierke with a so-called "toboggan demo" against the federal government's corona requirements.

Participants held up a banner with the words "Freedom to travel".

There were also some protest posters in the snow.

According to the spokesman for the Halberstadt police force, the “legal assembly action” was registered and proceeded without any problems.

There were also no violations of corona requirements such as the mask requirement.

The police were there with a few dozen officers.

"Everything stayed peaceful," said the spokeswoman for the Harz district.
