This Saturday, about 300 people, according to the police, demonstrated Saturday in Avignon in front of the Palais des Papes to demand the reopening in France of cultural places, closed to the public since October 30 in an attempt to limit the spread of the epidemic of Covid-19, and this for an as yet unknown duration.

"Here in Avignon, we want to reaffirm that culture is vital, essential to our lives, to our balance", proclaims a manifesto for the reopening of cultural and heritage places launched by the socialist mayor of Avignon, Cécile Helle, and the he association of Scènes d'Avignon bringing together most of the city's historic theaters.

"Let's deconfin minds"

Olivier Py, director of the Avignon festival, one of the most important in Europe, and the new president of the off festival, Sébastien Benedetto, are among the first signatories.

“Let's deconfin minds.

Let us be prudent and responsible, inventive and creative.

We want to return to the spectacle, in our museums, our heritage places without endangering ourselves, with absolute respect for barrier gestures and health protocols ”, say the petitioners for whom Avignon“ a city of cultural exception, must embody (…) resistance.
