In the competition between auction giants Christie's and Sotheby's, the older one was once again the stronger for a long time.

The auction house Sotheby's, founded in 1744, generated five billion dollars in sales in the crisis year 2020.

At $ 4.4 billion, the competitor, which is also more than a quarter of a millennium old, is not lagging behind, but is clearly behind in second place.

The lead in sales shows, however, that Sotheby's was apparently able to cope with the first year of the pandemic better than Christie's, in whose shadow the world's oldest auction house was so often located.
