  • Some parts of the Château de Pierrefonds, in the Oise region, require in-depth restoration.

  • Frame, stones, floors and decorations have suffered from the weather and the weather.

  • Seven million euros will be devoted to this project, which is due to start in early 2022.

In Pierrefonds, the stones look grim.

Certainly, it is beautiful the castle of Pierrefonds, in the Oise.

Except if you take a closer look, the building, built between the 14th and 15th centuries, suffers from deterioration linked to its age.

Some parts therefore need to be restored in depth.

Except that we do not renovate a secular castle as we redo the plaster on the facade of the grandmother's pavilion.

For this operation, a budget of 7 million euros is necessary.

He has known galleys and changes the castle of Pierrefonds, between the Middle Ages and the 21st century.

The state in which we see it today dates back to the 19th century, when it was restored by the architect Eugène Viollet-le-Duc at the request of Napoleon III.

But since then the ravages of time and the weather have done their work.

The damage to the Preuses wing, the Alexandre tower and the Godefroy tower in Bouillon were the subject of a diagnostic study, the report of which was submitted in May 2019.

A two-year project

The National Monuments Center (CMN) notes "deep alterations in certain stones on the facades, as well as some deep and superficial cracks, but also alterations on the downspouts and gutters".

There is also a lot of work to be done on the slate roofing, which "is at its end of use".

There is also a lot of work inside, in particular because of water infiltration which caused "alterations of the floor interjoists as well as peeling of the stone", lists the CMN.

The painted decorations of the famous architect also suffered from these same infiltrations.

In short, a big project in perspective which should begin in early 2022 for a period of two years.

This will include replacing all the altered stones, completely redoing the cover or restoring the famous decorations of Viollet-le-Duc.

Work that comes at a high price due to the intervention of very specialized trades, such as stone cutting, sculpture or the restoration of stained glass.

This price, 7 million euros, will be financed up to 5 million out of CMN's own resources.

The supplement was granted by Minister Roselyne Bachelot on the funds of the recovery plan.
