In the first quarter of 2020, an unusual number of people went to the cinema.

The premiere of films such as Part of My Heart, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and Frost 2 at the end of December 2019 made 2020 look like it could be a strong year for cinema visits, before the pandemic struck.

In total, Swedish films accounted for 26.8 percent of all visits.

It could have been a higher proportion if the restrictions had not been set at first 50 people per performance and later eight, the Cinema Owners' Association writes in the report.

Frost 2 was the most successful movie, with 560,571 tickets sold, then came Part of My Heart with 261,322 tickets and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and Tenet both ended up at close to 248,000 tickets each.
