China News Service, Macau, January 11 (Reporter Long Tuyou) The Spring Festival is approaching. In order to cooperate with the recommendations of the National Health Commission and the epidemic prevention work of the SAR government, the Labour Affairs Bureau of the Macau SAR Government appealed on the 11th for mainland labor working in Australia During the Spring Festival, personnel should avoid returning to their hometowns for the New Year to reduce the flow and gathering of people.

The Bureau of Labor Affairs met with representatives of the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce of Macau and the Association of Chinese Employment Agencies on the same day, calling on employers of small and medium enterprises to encourage mainland laborers working in Australia to avoid returning to their hometowns during the Spring Festival holiday.

At the same time, employers and employees are also reminded to take personal protective measures and try to cooperate with the SAR government's epidemic prevention work to reduce the risk of epidemic spread.

Ma Youli, president of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Macau, believes that this move is aimed at minimizing the movement of people, preventing another wave of epidemics, and also fulfilling social responsibility.

It is hoped that employers can understand and actively respond to the government's appeal and provide appropriate arrangements for mainland laborers during the Spring Festival holiday.

Ma Youli emphasized that although Macau is currently a relatively safe city, at the critical juncture of epidemic prevention and control, joint epidemic prevention is the top priority. Both employers and employees should communicate in good faith in a mutually considerate manner to maintain harmonious labor relations.

At the same time, it is hoped that the government can continue to take care of the small and medium businesses affected by the epidemic and help them to tide over the difficulties.

According to the latest data released by the Bureau of Labor Affairs, as of November 2020, the number of non-local employees in Macau is approximately 180,900, of which laborers from the Mainland account for 114,200.
