There are more than five months until next summer and some 33 million Spaniards to be vaccinated to get closer to group immunity.

We'll be able?

Experts ask to speed up the pace: "If we don't work well, no tourists will come. And, if tourists don't come to Spain, this will be an economic disaster of enormous measures."

7.00 The composition of the gut microbiota can influence the severity of covid-19

The composition of the microbiome - the bacteria in the gut - can influence the severity of COVID-19, as well as the magnitude of the immune system's response to infection, according to research from the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Imbalances in the composition of the microbiome may also be involved in the persistence of inflammatory symptoms after the disease has overcome, indicates the research, published in the journal Gut of the

British Medical Journal group.

The team obtained blood and stool samples and medical records from 100 patients hospitalized for COVID-19 between February and May 2020, as well as 78 healthy people participating in a pre-pandemic microbial study.

Analysis of stool samples showed that the composition of the microbiome "differed significantly" between patients with and without the disease, regardless of whether they had been treated with drugs, including antibiotics.

On the other hand, COVID-19 causes the immune system to produce inflammatory cytokines, which can sometimes be excessive, triggering the so-called "cytokine storm", which causes widespread tissue damage, septic "shock" and multi-organ failure.

This "suggests that the gut microbiome could influence the immune system response" to COVID-19 infection and potentially affect the severity and outcome of the disease, "according to the researchers, cited by the journal.
