With his joy in taking risks, Janos Pigerl fit perfectly into the "Gamer Special" of the quiz show "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?"

But Pigerl's willingness to take risks was fatal.

He failed on the 750,000 euro question despite three other jokers - and had to be satisfied with the consolation prize of 1,000 euros.

Pigerl lives in Cologne and works there as an employee in online retail, while studying psychology for a master's degree while working.

The young man made it to the 16,000 euro question with ease.

He owed this to the right preparation: "I tried to eradicate my weak areas and to stay on the ball when it comes to current issues," said Pigerl.

Moderator Günther Jauch was also impressed.

"Do you feel underchallenged?" Jauch asked in between.

In the gamer special, the candidates can win two million euros, but have to do without jokers up to the 16,000-euro question.

Then you have the usual four jokers available.

If the answer is wrong, the candidate will fall back on the € 1,000 consolation prize, regardless of which question he was on before.

Jauch enraptured by the candidate's knowledge

Even when Pigerl had already reached the quarter-million-euro question, Jauch was delighted with his knowledge.

“According to reports, what should be completed by the end of 2022 by October?” Jauch asked.

“A cellular network on the moon.

I'm sure I've read that Nokia got the job! ”Said Pigerl, who has owned a Nokia button phone for 15 years.

“Technically, you can't live further behind the moon than you,” Jauch joked.

But the Cologne man was right.

Two questions were still missing about the main prize of two million, and Pigerl still had three jokers available.

The win seemed near.

Jauch also asked in advance what the candidate would do for two million euros, because on his moderator card he read that Pigerl would sing a serenade with guitar in the studio.

But the young man was ashamed: "I'm really bad, I don't know if anyone wants to hear that."

In contrast to the previous questions, things then became difficult for Pigerl.

“In which sport have German athletes been able to win gold for their country most often at the Olympic Games?

A: Equestrian, B: Swimming, C: Athletics, D: Rowing. ”The candidate used the 50:50 joker, and answers C and D were then available.

Without hesitation, Pigerl decided on D: rowing.

To be on the safe side, Jauch asked again: “You don't want to cover yourself?

You really pull it off? ”But Pigerl refused to use another Joker - and thus fell to 1000 euros.

Answer C - athletics - would have been correct.

Nevertheless, there was a compliment from Jauch: “You were one of the best, most thoughtful, most confident candidates we have ever had.

You were a great gamer candidate. "
