Her favorite quote:
Rule # 1: The baby should be wrapped in a cotton blanket. Rule N ° 2: The baby must be placed in a wicker basket.
Rule N ° 3: The baby should be left on the highest step.
Why this book?
Because
The Fabulous Story of Five Inadoptable Orphelins
is a children's novel
full of surprises in the vein of The
Disastrous Adventures of the Baudelaire
Orphelins
.
To the effective pen of Hana Tooke, are added the black and white illustrations of Ayesha L. Rubio, allowing readers to put faces on the young heroes of this novel ... as on their disturbing enemies ...
Because the reader meets five orphans who grew up together
at the La Petite Tulipe orphanage run by the terrible Elinora Gassbeek.
Considered to be "inadoptable" because aged 12 and 13, young friends seem never to be perfect enough in the eyes of potential adopters.
One is too lanky, the other has 6 fingers on each hand, yet another cannot speak, etc.
To escape a man eager to buy them as labor on his ship, the five young people escape from the orphanage, heading for the unknown.
Because this novel shows young readers that we are all different
and that is not a flaw.
Hana Tooke, the author, passes essential messages through her pen, and in particular the importance of creating your own identity, without having to forge it from a possible “healthy” family background.
Determination, mutual aid and hope are also notions conveyed with delicacy by the author thanks to these five close-knit friends, always there for each other.
Because this very good children's novel carries strong messages
and will captivate young readers (as well as older ones!) By plunging them into an adventure full of twists and turns populated by adorable characters.
A good start to the year!
