  • The Isère-based company Innocafé has developed Piccolo, the first waterless pocket coffee.

    Global innovation, she says.

  • Since the summer, the company has been contacted by several supermarket chains and fast food chains, attracted by the concept.

  • This invention, which required two years of research, was also patented.

No need for kettle, coffee maker, mug, thermos.

Neither water.

The Innocafé company, based in Meylan near Grenoble (Isère) has just created Piccolo, a “waterless pocket café”.

A world first that could revolutionize consumer habits.

"We succeeded in grinding to 1 / 20th of a micron, four coffee beans that are placed in a plastic bag, explains Richard Bertoni, president and founder of the company.

The principle is simple: you can wear it with you, anywhere.

And especially in places where you cannot access a restaurant or a bar.

This could be while hiking in the mountains, on a chairlift, in your car, in the metro… ”

The effect of saliva

Each sachet contains precisely 0.5 grams of very finely ground pure coffee.

And to consume it, nothing could be simpler.

Just pour it on the tongue.

“We wait a few seconds, the coffee will dissolve with the saliva.

Which gives the sensation of drinking a sip of coffee, ”continues the entrepreneur.

Those who like to breathe the scent above their cup, will have to settle for simpler.

But the taste, on the other hand, is very present, he assures us.

Two years of research and work of all kinds were necessary to develop the product.

To prevent it from being too pasty, too bitter or indigestible.

To find the perfect dosage and the right molding to deceive the palate of consumers and make them believe that they are tasting an arabica.

A patented invention

“Until now, it was technically impossible to grind coffee so finely.

It ends up burning.

We therefore had made-to-measure machines capable of doing so.

We have worked in this direction with companies that work for drug factories, ”reveals Richard Bertoni.

The man and two of his associates did not count the hours of research.

Their invention was patented.

The product, sold 2.50 euros per sachet, was marketed in July.

Very quickly, requests poured in.

4,000 orders have been recorded by the company.

“The price is not a brake, especially as it decreases if you buy several boxes.

It was determined based on the average price of a coffee in the world, ”explains the businessman, who reveals that he has been contacted by several retail and fast food brands.

But also by pharmacies.

“The product can be consumed by pregnant women, the elderly or those who cannot stand caffeine,” he concludes.
