The police verified that Zeng Chunliang, a villager in Hoofang Village, Shandang Town, was suspected of committing a major crime and fled after the incident.
Five days later, at about 8:25 on August 13 of the same year, another murder occurred in Hoofang Village, Shandang Town, Le'an County. Gui Mouping, a poverty alleviation cadre in the village, was killed by Zeng Chunliang who had fled in the compound of the village committee.
After thousands of people were searched for several days, at about 16:27 on August 16, the suspect Zeng Chunliang was arrested by the police near Hangqiao Village, Shandang Town, Le'an County.
On October 16, 2020, the Jiangxi Yichun City Procuratorate filed a public prosecution with the Yichun City Intermediate People's Court against Zeng Chunliang's suspected intentional homicide, robbery, and theft.
On November 12, 2020, relatives of the Kang family and their attorney Hou Shi filed a criminal incidental civil indictment to the Yichun Intermediate People's Court, petitioning the court to sentence Zeng Chunliang to death, and claiming 2,727,500 yuan.
In addition, the injured Kang's nephew also petitioned the court to sentence Zeng Chunliang to death, and claimed medical expenses, compensation for mental damage, nursing expenses and other economic losses totaling 1.593 million yuan.

The prosecutors allege that on the evening of July 21, 2020, Zeng Chunliang rode an electric car to the home of a group of victims Xiong Moumei in Hoofang Village, Shandang Town, Le'an County, and fell asleep at the scene of the crime due to unsuccessful theft.
After being discovered by the victim Xiong Momei in the early hours of the next morning, a fight started.
After Zeng Chunliang fled, he heard that the Le'an County police were looking for him. He felt terrified. He thought that Kang Moushuai called the police and caused him to be unable to live normally. So he wanted to kill Kang Moushuai. He carried a sharp knife and clothing in the middle of the night on August 7 of the same year. When he came to Xiong's beautiful house, he hit with a hammer and stabbed Xiong with a machete, causing Xiong to die. Then he rushed to the victim's Kang Moguo room on the second floor of Xiong's beautiful home and hammered the sleeping Kang Moguo with a hammer. The victim, Wu Mou, had his head far away, causing one death and one serious injury, and he temporarily stole watches, silver bracelets and other items worth 7,791.17 yuan.
After committing the crime, Zeng Chunliang killed Gui Mouping again while in hiding.
During this period, Zeng Chunliang also stole a Haojue motorcycle, a Dingpeng tricycle, and a Lifan motorcycle, with a total value of 3135 yuan.
The prosecutor said that after the psychiatric judicial appraisal of the Jiangxi Psychiatric Judicial Laboratory, Zeng Chunliang was in a normal mental state when he committed the crime, and his identification and control abilities were complete, and he was assessed as full criminal responsibility ability.
