“If your cats play in Amazon boxes, they will be exposed [to toxic products] and may suffer from chemical burns to the tongue.

“On Facebook, many publications accuse Jeff Bezos' company of endangering our dear pet felines.

According to these users, Amazon would spray on "all its boxes [of] toxic pesticides to kill rodents in warehouses."

A practice which, without an "emergency intervention" on the part of a veterinarian, would lead cats to "certain death".

According to this Facebook post, Amazon would spray pesticides on its packaging boxes.

A practice that could supposedly endanger domestic felines.

FAKE OFF

Same photograph and same alarmist text, this rumor according to which Amazon would spray its packaging boxes with chemicals comes primarily from the United States, as recounted in an article by the American fact-checking site Snopes published on December 30. .

"Our boxes are in no way treated with chemicals," both rodenticides and insecticides, denied Leah Seay, the American spokesperson for Amazon, to the media.

A corroborated version the spokesperson for Amazon France, with the German press agency DPA.

"Our cardboard boxes are made of pulp and binder [...], they have nothing special and are significantly the same as those used by our competitors," said Leah Seay, who does not exclude, however, that packaging could be contaminated in airports or aircraft holds, as she explained to Snopes.

In the United States, the Department of Transportation authorizes, for example, the disinsection of aircraft with insecticidal aerosols.

The latter, which can be sprayed while passengers are on board, are nevertheless not supposed to represent a risk for the animals.
