Like Les 2 Alpes, the Tignes resort had a short reopening before the reconfinement, from October 17 to 29.

Jean Castex's announcements on Thursday, with a status quo concerning the closure of ski lifts, at least until January 20, are not likely to reassure French ski resorts.

Invited on BFM Business this Friday, Dominique Marcel, CEO of Compagnie des Alpes, even warns: the opening of the ski lifts in February is "a question of life or death for a certain number of players".

"If we do not open in February, we have to look reality in the face, the season is over, resorts will have real problems of existence," added the boss of this company which operates ten ski areas.

"You need visibility so that people can book well in advance", specifies Dominique Marcel, recalling that the February holidays represent "40% or even more of the turnover".

According to him, the reservations "already weak", decrease, and to "anxiety" is added a form of incomprehension.

"We are in open spaces, without restaurants or nightclubs", he recalls, pointing to the risks of contamination from Covid-19 in "shopping centers and the metro", still open in France.

Already deprived of ski lifts at Christmas, ie a loss of turnover estimated for the entire sector at 1.5 billion euros, mountain professionals are crossing their fingers for "a quick decision" and favorable, on the occasion of the update on the situation mentioned by the Prime Minister for January 20.
