Chefs

What is it about ?

The series tells the story of a chef who annually recruits a young offender on probation into his brigade.

One of these young people, Romain, therefore joined the demanding world of cooking after a fraud affair.

Why she makes you hungry:

The establishment that Romain includes, a stone's throw from Notre-Dame Cathedral, is a Parisian gourmet restaurant.

The camera takes us behind the stoves, and the dishes make our mouth water.

They cook squab, monkfish without salt, appetizers, etc.

All served meticulously on a platter.

Where can we see her?

The 14 episodes (50mn) in 2 seasons are available on Salto.

Desperate Housewives

What is it about ?

Four women live in the chic and fictional suburb of Fairview, in the United States: Lynette is having a hard time getting used to her life as a stay-at-home mom, Suzanne has just divorced, Gabrielle Solis, a former model, is bored when her rich husband is on the move.

As for Bree Van de Kamp, strict and traditional, she leads her household with the wand.

But when they learn that one of their neighbor has committed suicide, the four "desperate housewives" will investigate.

Why she makes you hungry:

Bree Van de Kamp has several faults, she is very conservative, very demanding with herself and with her family.

But she has a talent: she cooks particularly well.

On screen, it's always a pleasure to discover his recipes: his blueberry muffins, his pineapple inverted cake, his osso bucco, and other small onion dishes ... 'be perfect and well presented.

Like Bree, actually.

The 185 episodes (43 mn) and 8 seasons are available on Prime Video.

Downton abbey

What is it about ?

Direction England, and the phlegm of the bourgeois Crawley family, owners of a huge house in Yorkshire, called "Downton Abbey".

The story begins when the Titanic just disappeared into the seabed in 1912, with the heirs of the castle inside.

Between love stories, family dramas and the torments of history, this is a (very) addictive series.

Why she makes you hungry:

We regularly see the dishes of the cook of the big house: Mrs Patmore.

Food is a fundamental element in this series.

It reflects the class difference.

On the one hand, the aristocrats eat a Yorkshire pudding or a delicious chicken with pistachios.

On the other hand, the servants in the basement have the right to much less sophisticated dishes like ... beef stews with meatballs.

Where can we see her?

The 52 episodes (50 minutes) and 6 seasons are available on Prime Video and Salto.

Malcolm

What is it about ?

The series tells the story of a gifted, a little genius.

His name is Malcolm, is 11 years old, and lives in an average American family.

With his brothers, he is always ready to do silly things.

Why she makes you hungry:

The cuisine, here too, is ubiquitous but it is not really refined.

It is even sometimes not very tasty.

The dishes of Lois, the authoritarian mother, are not very far from Fabienne Lepic's "fourzitou", seen in another series:

Do not do this, do not do that.

Except that in Malcolm's family, we call it the "leftover gratin".

Where can we see her?

All 151 episodes and 7 seasons are available on Prime Video.

Mad Men

What is it about ?

It's a dive into the life of a New York advertising agency, from the 1960s to the early 1970s. In this business, times required, everyone drinks excessively.

Starting with the main character, Don Draper, the creative director.

Over the seasons, we discover his professional development but also and above all his dark side ...

Why she makes you hungry:

The series makes you especially thirsty!

This main character has brought cocktails up to date, like Old Fashioned, his favorite: a little angostura sugar, an orange zest, whiskey especially, and a dash of sparkling water.

These cocktails recreate a whole era but above all characterize its character.

His glasses in his hand give him the false air of a manly hero, while in reality hides behind a character in love with a real loneliness.

Without the cocktails, Don Draper would undoubtedly lose his splendor.

The 92 episodes (48 mn) and 7 seasons are available on Prime Video.

Midnight Dinner

What is it about ?

The series takes place in Japan, in a Tokyo tavern, a typical restaurant open from midnight to 7am.

Here, meet a female taxi driver, a radio host, an alcoholic actor, friends who extend their evening.

Inside, they will make connections between the dishes and their lives.

Why it makes you hungry:

We see browning meat, vegetables thrown into a saucepan, and boiling water that covers all that.

In this tiny, dull place, the chef - called the Master - prepares rāmens, pancakes, tanmen (soups) and some tempura.

All served to its customers with a beer or a glass of sake.

Something to make our mouths water.

Where can we see her?

The 2 seasons of 10 episodes (25 minutes) are available on Netflix.

House of Cards

What is it about ?

The series tells the story of Frank Underwood, a long shadow man in American politics.

He is ready to do anything to gain power and become the President of the United States.

We dive head first into the world of American politics.

Why she makes her hungry:

Frank Underwood is a regular at Freddy's BBQ Joint, a tiny restaurant with two tables.

Behind the stove is Freddy.

His speciality ?

The ribs.

The politician arrives in a suit in this back room and eats with his fingers these bits of meat which seem so well cooked.

The smell of barbecue, the sweet and salty taste of pork coming off its bone… It's all there.

Where can we see her?

The 73 episodes (55 minutes) and 6 seasons are available on Netflix.

The simpsons

What is it about ?

This cult cartoon tells the story of an average American family through caricatured figures of American society.

There's Homer the lax and slightly stupid father, Marge the blue flower housewife, Bart the boisterous elder, Lisa his gifted sister, and Maggie the youngest constantly with a pacifier in her mouth.

Why she makes you hungry:

It's simple in The

Simpsons

Homer is eating all the time: burgers, beer and the famous donuts.

A way for creators to make fun of American "junk food".

Where can we see her?

The 692 episodes (21 mn) are available on Disney +.

The Sopranos

What is it about ?

In New Jersey, Tony Soprano, a mobster, suffers from panic attacks.

To remedy this, he secretly consults a shrink.

Why she makes you hungry:

In this cult series, food is everywhere.

Logically, because Tony is of Italian origin, we swallow spaghetti with meatballs, salami or even Ziti al forno, a particular pasta gratin ...

Where can we see her?

All 86 episodes over 6 seasons are available on OCS.
