He is the greatest of French thieves, sung by Jacques Dutronc and many times embodied on the screen.

Arsène Lupine, the character invented by Maurice Leblanc in 1905, returns to service.

"Lupine", a French series, put online this Friday, January 8 on Netflix, intends to dust off the myth by entrusting the main role to one of the favorite actors of the French: Omar Sy.

Assane Diop, a 40-year-old divorced family man, has no monocle or top hat.

But like his century-old model, Arsène Lupine, he changes his appearance and identity to steal jewels and swindle the powerful.

And above all, he seeks to avenge his father, who died 25 years earlier, after being accused of a crime he did not commit.

And then the writing quality is not the same.

Despite heavy script strings, Lupine can rely on the sympathy capital of the main interpreter: Omar Sy, convincing in this role of action and seduction.

With this family entertainment, the Netflix platform hopes to show that it can also exhibit quality French content, after the critical failures of original productions like
