A huge amount of waste from the ocean dumped on São Conrado beach in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) this weekend.

Images showing the thousands of plastic trash littering the sand were shared this Saturday by professional surfer Kelly Slater, reports

Video footage was also posted by Instituto Mar Urbano, a government organization, on Instagram.

There are countless plastic bottles, bags, small objects, as well as a doll's head and a soccer ball.

Pollution that has several origins

According to the organization, the waste comes, among other things, from sewers, or is thrown directly into nature and carried by rivers to the ocean.

They can also reach the Atlantic by air from open dumps.

Waste is a problem in Brazil, the world's 4th largest plastic producer in 2019 according to WWF.
