China has declared parts of Hebei province to be a high-risk area after 14 new corona infections.

Eleven of the cases were registered in the city of Shijiazuang, where some competitions for the 2022 Winter Olympics will take place, said the province's health authority.

Exit restrictions have therefore been imposed for parts of the city and additional tests have been ordered.

30 tests had positive results, but those affected showed no symptoms.

Hebei has entered "war mode" according to state media.

Investigator teams would be used to track down contact persons of corona patients who tested positive.

A village is already in lockdown.

The province surrounding Beijing will act as a "moat" around the capital.

The spread of the virus beyond the province will be prevented, reports "Hebei Daily".

The first locally transmitted infections since June 2020 were recorded in Hebei in the first days of January.

China is the starting point of the global corona pandemic and has so far announced 87,183 infections and 4634 deaths with the virus.

People who test positive but show no symptoms are listed in a separate statistic in the People's Republic.
