[Explanation] Recently, the Department of Neurosurgery, Beijing Tiantan Hospital, Affiliated to Capital Medical University, was officially opened for departmental opening.

This ward is mainly for patients with consciousness disorders commonly known as "vegetables", using neuromodulation, brain-computer interface and other technologies to maximize consciousness recovery and neurological function improvement.

People used to think that a vegetative man was a zombie, and he would never wake up.

But vegetatives are actually composed of several types of people.

Some people are in a deep coma, which means that it is more difficult to recover. However, some people have actually reached a very high level of consciousness. At this time, we only need to use the existing treatment methods and give them some electricity. With stimulation, magnetic stimulation, medication or some training adjustments, the patient may recover.

[Explanation] He Jianghong introduced that China conservatively estimates that there are 500,000-1 million such patients. At present, there is a lack of comprehensive systematic and standardized treatment methods. Accelerating and improving the functional recovery of patients with impaired consciousness as soon as possible has become one of the clinical problems that need to be resolved.

First of all, medicine, some usual rehabilitation training, and some electric stimulation or magnetic stimulation, if it is more complicated in the later stage, there are some surgical treatment methods.

According to the different conditions of the patient, different methods of diagnosis and treatment will be selected, and his overall wake-up rate can reach about 30%.

[Explanation] He Jianghong told reporters that there are currently 6 beds in the neurosurgery disorder of consciousness, which mainly carry out consciousness assessment, diagnosis and prognosis prediction of consciousness disorders; comprehensive treatment methods such as surgery, drugs, neuromodulation and brain-computer interface are used to accelerate patients Regain consciousness.

First of all, this center will screen out some patients who can be treated and let them make some treatments. For some patients who are really no longer suitable for treatment, at least give them a certain basis for their decision-making. This will help everyone in the future. It is meaningful to deal with these patients in the future or to make diagnosis and treatment strategies.

We hope to share these experience in treatment and diagnosis with our colleagues across the country, and eventually spread to every level of hospitals, so that more patients can get good treatment in the nearest hospital.
