Considered one of the five most important directors in the history of Spanish Cinema, Luis García Berlanga was born in Valencia on June 12, 1921, so this 2021 is commemorating his centenary. To celebrate, we chose the eight best films from a somewhat brief filmography, since there are barely 18 feature films in 46 active years (1953-1999); one of them, That Happy Couple (1953), co-directed by Juan Antonio Bardem, and another, The Four Truths (1962), episodes, shared with Alessandro Blasetti, René Clair and Hervé Bromberger. In other words, by choosing 8 films, we are reviewing half of his brilliant solo filmography, in which there is hardly any blur, as is the case of the film that closes it, Paris, Timbuktu. Of course, all of them are one hundred percent Berlanguianas and the Austro-Hungarian word is pronounced in all of them.
