The corona lockdown in Germany will probably be extended until January 31.

The majority of prime ministers had already spoken out in favor of this.

The Union-led countries had already agreed on this line on Sunday evening, as the German press agency learned from among the prime ministers.

Only two SPD-led countries disagree, another source said.

The corona lockdown should actually end on January 10, but given the continued high number of infections, an extension is highly likely.

The federal government is also in favor of an expansion by the end of January.

Thuringia had already announced on Sunday that it wanted to continue the lockdown until January 31.

A final decision will only be made on Tuesday, when the federal and state governments meet.

According to a report by the editorial network Germany (RND), the countries with low numbers of infections are keeping themselves open to talk again about the current status in two weeks and to discuss the measures again.

The "Bild" newspaper had previously reported that the federal and state governments have already agreed to extend the lockdown to January 31.

The paper also wrote that the final decision would not be made until Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) contacted the Prime Minister.
