He was well known to metal lovers.

Finland's Alexi Laiho, guitarist and singer of the group Children of Bodom, is dead.

He was 41 years old.

The information was revealed on Monday, on the Facebook account of Bodom After Midnight, the name the musical group had taken when it reformed after separating at the end of 2019.

His ex-acolytes made the announcement "with a heavy heart and a great sadness".

“We are completely devastated and heartbroken by the sudden disappearance of our dear friend.

(...) Our journey as a group had just begun, so there is no word to describe the shock and the endless sorrow we feel. " 

"A long illness"

The Nuclear Blast label also paid tribute to Alexi Laiho and revealed that the artist died at his home in Helsinki (Finland), "last week", following "a long illness".

“The talented guitarist loved playing his role as stepfather in his patchwork family, but also as uncle and godfather.

In recent years in particular, these important family ties have brought a welcome balance to his life and touring.

Laiho was particularly close to his big sister, his parents and his sister's daughter, ”added Nuclear Beast on Facebook.
