Just outside the port in Iwanai Town, Hokkaido, a patrol boat of the Japan Coast Guard Otaru Maritime Security Department has stranded and remains stuck.

The crew was not injured, and the Japan Coast Guard is considering ways to pull it away from the shallows.

After 7:30 am on the 2nd, the Otaru Coast Guard patrol boat "Esan" completed a normal patrol and left Iwanai Port to return to Otaru. Did.

I tried to tow with another patrol boat to get away from the shallow water, but the propeller and the steering wheel were buried in the sand on the seabed and could not get out, and I could not move.

There are about 20 crew members on board, but there are no injuries, no oil spills have been confirmed, and there is no impact on the navigation of fishing boats entering and leaving Iwanai Port.

The Otaru Coast Guard will continue to consider ways to pull it away from the shallows and investigate the detailed cause of the grounding.

The stranded "Esan" is a patrol boat with a total length of 96 meters and a displacement of 1500 tons, which went into service in October 2016, and is engaged in operations such as coastal security and salvage.
