This was a joint effort of five organizations to support people in need, and was held at a church in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, following New Year's Eve with Omisoka.



At the venue, more than 200 people prepared handmade lunch boxes and drinks, which were received by the visitors.



In addition, life consultations were also accepted, and members of support groups advised people who are in need of living due to loss of work, etc. about applying for livelihood protection.



According to the support group, the number of consultations received is close to 100 in 3 days, so from the 4th onward, we will apply for livelihood protection to local governments in Tokyo.



A 60-year-old man who said he had almost no work due to the new coronavirus said, "I lived on one meal a day during the New Year holidays. I felt like trying my best from tomorrow."

"No work, no savings"

Support groups made up of labor unions, lawyers, NPOs, etc. have been holding telephone counseling sessions nationwide every two months since April because the spread of the new coronavirus has spread the impact on employment. We have summarized the number and contents of consultations.



According to this, 1217 consultations were received in June, 782 in October, and 522 in December.



Of those who could grasp their income through consultation, the percentage of those who answered that their monthly income was 100,000 yen or less was 58.5% in June, but it was 68.9% in December.



Of those who answered about their money, the percentage of those who were 10,000 yen or less was 22.7% in June, 31.2% in August, 51.3% in October, and 59.6% in December. Is increasing.



At the telephone consultation meeting in December, many voices complained about the serious situation.



Among them, a woman in her 40s who worked as a part-time worker in the restaurant business said, "I lost my job from around spring and managed to manage with a one-off job, but finally I have no job, my savings are zero and I have nothing to eat." It was a consultation.



In addition, a man in his 70s who lives with his wife said, "I work as a driver of a taxi company, but I can't live because of a reduced number of jobs and a commission system. I'm in arrears with rent and insurance premiums. A man in his 40s said, "I was working as a temporary worker, but I lost my job in November," he said, "I have already borrowed money and other national loans, and I have 50,000 yen left." In early December, I was in a situation where I couldn't eat because I had no savings and I was looking for a job, but I couldn't decide. "



The support group "Overcoming the Corona Disaster and Protecting Life and Life" said, "Amid the prolonged effects of the new coronavirus, people who worked in non-regular employment lost their jobs and saved money. Although they have managed to maintain their livelihoods by scrapping the virus and using national benefits and loans, the reality is that more and more people are running out of money.
