Five chickens were found dead at a poultry farm in Minokamo City, Gifu Prefecture, and avian influenza virus was detected as a result of inspection.

The outbreak of bird flu has been confirmed in Gifu prefecture since 2017, and the prefecture is proceeding with epidemic prevention measures such as the culling of 68,000 birds raised in poultry farms.

According to Gifu Prefecture, on the evening of the 1st, a poultry farm in Minokamo City reported that "5 chickens are dead in one poultry house", and the prefecture collected samples from 13 chickens including these 5 chickens and gene. When the test was conducted, on the morning of the 2nd, "H5 type" avian influenza virus was detected in all the samples.

Gifu Prefecture held an urgent meeting in the afternoon and dispatched a total of more than 1,100 veterinarians and staff to the site, etc., and slaughtered 68,000 chickens in the poultry farm and disinfected the surrounding area 24 hours a day. We have confirmed that we will proceed with epidemic prevention measures.

The epidemic prevention measures are scheduled to be completed by the 5th of this month.

In response to this, there are 6 poultry farms in the "movement restricted area" within a radius of 3 km that prohibits the movement of chickens and eggs designated by the prefecture, and within a radius of 10 km that prohibits shipping outside the area. There are 26 poultry farms in the "restricted export area".

This winter, outbreaks of bird flu are occurring one after another in various places, but the outbreak has been confirmed in Gifu prefecture since 2017.
