After the break with Brussels, comes a challenge if perhaps more difficult for the British: break with the Bottle.
Well, it turns out that
the pandemic has triggered the sale of alcohol
, and in particular beer (more than 900 million euros) and even more particularly
the Corona brand
(sales have risen 40%, who would have thought).
Despite the closure of the pubs, everything seems to indicate that the British have transferred the alcohol habit to the living room, in front of the favorite television series, and if possible with an accompaniment of
sausages and bacon
(two other products that have risen like foam during confinements).
And here comes
Dry January
, the initiative that emerged precisely in the United Kingdom in 2013, with the challenge of climbing the famous slope at the start of the year without tasting a drop.
The "dry January" has already spread throughout the world and does not distinguish between sexes or ages
, although this year it certainly takes on a special meaning.
Despite the rigors of the pandemic, 20% of British people say they welcome the year with the best of intentions: to
stay "clean" of alcohol at least until February
.
The survey carried out by Drinkaware detects that another 21% trust that they can sign up at least several days during the week.
"The good news is immediate health improvement when you
quit
alcohol," says
Sarah Jarvis
, Drinkaware educator.
"You lose weight, improve your immune system, lower your anxiety level, you are less prone to depression, improve your concentration and your mood, you gain in your personal relationships ...".
Ties with the European Union broken, the British are therefore preparing to consummate in this "dry January" that other divorce if perhaps more painful, but full of priceless benefits ...
Happy 2021 without tariffs and without quotas
, without drunkenness and without hangovers .
