Several Bundeswehr vehicles burned down in Leipzig on New Year's Eve.

The jeeps were parked on the site of a car dealership, said police spokesman Olaf Hoppe.

Seven out of ten vehicles were on fire.

According to initial findings, the police assume arson.

Shortly after 10:00 p.m., the police reported an emergency call that reported that there were vehicles on fire at a dealership on Torgauer Strasse.

“Several Bundeswehr vehicles were ignited in an unknown manner by unknown perpetrators.

The fires could be extinguished by forces of the fire brigade, ”said a statement from the police.

Apart from the car fires, according to Hoppe, the city remained largely quiet.

The police were on the move with numerous emergency services in the city area and especially in the Connewitz district, which is considered an alternative to the left.

There had been riots there at the turn of the previous year.

This time there were only a few people at the Connewitzer Kreuz.

The city of Leipzig had banned gatherings for New Year's Eve and issued a ban on firecrackers in three zones - including the Connewitzer Kreuz.
