[Explanation] In the first half of 2020, the new crown epidemic brought a huge impact to the film industry, and theaters were almost shut down.

However, with the resumption of work and production in the second half of the year, the film market has heated up significantly.

Judging from the annual box office performance, in 2020, the Chinese movie "Curve Overtaking" will surpass North America in box office and become the world's number one.

In 2020, the annual box office of Chinese films reached 20 billion, or about US$3.05 billion, surpassing North America to become the world's No. 1 box office market, down 68.9% year-on-year.

Affected by the epidemic, the attendance rate of Chinese cinemas this year (2020) has dropped from 11% last year to 8% this year, and the growth rate of theaters and screens has slowed down.

As of September, the number of cinemas opened has reached more than 10,000, and the resumption rate of cinemas has reached more than 90%.

In October, we got another National Day file with the second highest box office in history, which can be said to give the industry and the audience a very strong restoration of confidence.

[Explanation] Affected by the epidemic abroad, many imported films will be postponed globally in 2020.

However, domestic films continued to perform well under the background that they had been suspended for half a year and missed key periods such as the Spring Festival and summer holidays, and contributed more than 80% of the box office throughout the year.

In recent years, the ticket sales of imported films accounted for about 40% of the total box office of the film market each year. This year (2020), the proportion has dropped to 17%.

This year (2020), the box office contribution rate of domestic films has exceeded 80%, and the top 10 films (box office) are all domestic films.

Like "Eight Bai", it won 3.1 billion in the box office and reached the 8th in the box office of Chinese film history.

"I'm Waiting for You at the End of Time" has a box office of 278 million on the first day.

These films have achieved such box office results in such a market situation this year (2020). It is hard to come by, and it has injected a few shots into the Chinese film market.

[Explanation] From the perspective of film types, the contribution rate of feature films in 2020 has increased significantly compared with previous years.

Judging from the audience, the sinking speed further accelerated.

[Concurrent] Mu Chen, Dean of Lighthouse Research Institute

The number of films released throughout the year reached 384.

From the perspective of genre, the box office contribution of feature films is as high as 40%, which is a substantial increase over the previous two years.

The type of war history has also been greatly improved due to the outstanding performance of these films such as "Eight Hundred" and "King Kong River".

This year (2020), the structure of moviegoers is relatively stable, but the proportion of third- and fourth-tier (cities) audiences buying tickets has increased from 35% last year to 38% this year. The sinking speed is further accelerated, and of course it is sinking more. It is brought about by changes in content supply.

[Explanation] The epidemic is an impact and an opportunity.

Mu Chen said that from the perspective of development trends, the domestic movie box office will continue to remain stable, and the Chinese movie market still has great potential for development.

We also see that the content supply of domestic films continues to strengthen this year (2020). It is predicted that the proportion of domestic films in the box office will stabilize at more than 70% in the next 1-2 years.

As more high-quality content enters the market, the film market will gradually heat up. We believe that the upcoming Spring Festival will give viewers more choices and film practitioners will see that the Chinese film market will get better and better.
